An evaluation may be necessary if (1) you have concerns about learning, attention/focus, motivation, social interactions, and emotion and behavior regulation that are negatively impacting daily functions, (2) You're seeking diagnostic clarity, (3) Maybe you can’t pinpoint it, but something seems “off” and you want to get to the root of it all, (4) You're more broadly looking to discover aspects of you or your child to improve outcomes in daily life.
Areas of strength and weakness will be identified, and a diagnosis will be made (if applicable). This will allow for further clarity and understanding, and if needed, allow you to access supports in school (including IEP and 504 Plans) and within the community. We will guide you and advocate for you along the way in seeking those additional supports.
See our “Resources” tab for a free parent checklist to determine if your child may need an evaluation.

These are similar, but differ in scope, depth, and purpose. Psychoeducational evaluations are designed to understand how a student learns. They assess cognitive abilities and academic skills to identify learning disabilities (like dyslexia) or clarify the need for school-based supports, such as IEPs or 504 Plans. These evaluations are helpful when concerns are primarily academic.
Neuropsychological evaluations are more comprehensive. In addition to academic and cognitive testing, they assess attention, executive functioning, memory, language, processing speed, visual-spatial and motor skills, social-emotional functioning, and adaptive behavior. These evaluations are appropriate when there are multiple areas of concern, complex developmental histories and other symptoms, or questions about conditions such as Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, and/or mood disorders.

All services begin with a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. Evaluations include a parent-only intake session (60-75 minutes), one to three in-person testing sessions (each session is approximately 1.5 - 3 hours), and a final feedback session (60 minutes). The intake and final feedback sessions can be completed virtually, although in-person is preferred.
All telehealth sessions are completed via a secure, HIPAA-compliant online platform (Sessions Health).

Yes. Diagnoses provided are based on DSM-5 criteria using the ICD-10 coding system, which is widely recognized and used by other mental health practitioners, medical professionals, and insurance companies.

You can explain to your child or teen that the evaluation is a way for everyone to better understand how their brains work — how they learn, think, and feel. It will highlight their strengths but also identify any challenges so that the adults in their lives can make those challenges easier for them. Let them know there are no right or wrong answers, and that the goal is to help them, not test them.
If they’d like to, your child or teen may bring snacks and a drink, and any special item or activity they’d like to enjoy while taking their breaks.
While the assessment time is very important, we also keep things light and flexible so your child or teen feels at ease.

Payments are due prior to or at the time of service. Credit card and HSA/FSA methods of payment will be processed through a protected, HIPAA compliant, online invoicing system.
Private evaluations: After your 15-minute free consultation, an intake session will be scheduled, at which time $300 will be due. At least half of the remaining balance will be due at the first testing appointment, and second half will be due at final feedback session. All details specific to your case will be clearly outlined in your contract prior to booking.
Consultation: fees are collected at time of service.

The No Surprises Act is a federal law which provides you with the right to a "Good Faith Estimate" of the cost of services at our practice. However, Ohio licensing board rules require us to provide you with the actual cost of our charges in a written informed consent form to which you must agree prior to us providing services. That will be available to you prior to you being seen for services and prior to any billing. You will be free to discontinue services at any time or the services may otherwise be terminated in accordance with the informed consent form language.
Although the No Surprises Law says that you may initiate a dispute process if the actual charges are substantially in excess of the Good Faith Estimated charges (i.e. if you are charged $400 more than the estimated cost for a session or for the total estimate provided), that is unlikely to happen and would be a violation of licensing board rules, since you will be agreeing up front to actual charges per session prior to being seen. Dispute information is available upon request, however any changes to our fees will require a change in the informed consent form fees, which you must agree to prior to having them go into effect, otherwise the fees will remain in effect for 12 months.
